FAQs

Here are answers to some common questions we are often asked about the Group Staff and House Staff Management Trainee Programmes.

Application

Management Trainee Programme
If you have a particular interest in one of our divisions, as a Group Staff Trainee you can express your interest to be placed there, however you must speak and write a good command of Chinese (either Mandarin or Cantonese) and hold citizenship in the PRC or the Right of Abode in Hong Kong SAR, or be an overseas national who is eligible for employment in Hong Kong under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) policy. The House Staff programme is open to all nationalities but during the programme you will be assigned to any one of our businesses anywhere in the world, often at a moment’s notice.
Criteria for the Group Staff Management Trainee Programme:
You need to have citizenship in the PRC or the Right of Abode in Hong Kong SAR, or be an overseas national who is eligible for employment in Hong Kong under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) policy. Candidates who do not have the right to work in Hong Kong or the PRC might want to consider joining the House Staff Programme. Group Staff trainees will be primarily based in Hong Kong or the PRC after completing the three-year programme and may be relocated to Mainland China, different countries or regions during their career with Swire.

Criteria for the House Staff Management Trainee Programme:
You will need to be available for the first interview in person in Hong Kong in December 2017. The second interview will be held in London in Feb 2018. The House Staff programme is open to applications from all nationalities. House Staff trainees will be relocated to different countries or regions during the three-year programme and different industries during their career with Swire.

You can only apply to join one of the programmes. We will only process one application from each candidate. Please note: remuneration and benefit packages for the Group Staff and the House Staff programme trainees may vary in accordance with local conditions.
If you are interested in a general management career within any of our group companies, you will need to apply to one of the Management Trainee Programmes. However, for the Group Staff Programme, you may state your preference on the application form. We carefully consider a trainee’s interests, preferences, personality and other indicators, as well as Swire’s own business needs when determining the business stream to which trainees are seconded. Those who aspire to a specialist career in technical fields such as engineering, building surveying and other technical areas may apply directly to the relevant companies for their respective specialist schemes.
We only accept applications for the Group Staff Programme from candidates with citizenship in the PRC or Right of Abode in Hong Kong SAR, or overseas nationals who are eligible for employment in Hong Kong under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) policy.
We do not have a quota in recruitment for either programme. Each intake varies according to the calibre of candidates and our business requirements.
We do not have specific requirements for the degree majors of applicants. The Swire Group Staff Management Trainee Programme and Swire House Staff Management Trainee Programme is a generalist programme. We therefore welcome university graduates from any discipline who subscribe to our company philosophy – the pursuit of excellence and achievement while demonstrating the key competencies we look for in their educational background and extra-curricular activities.
You may apply as soon as you are qualified. Please take note of the selection schedule of the respective programme to which you are applying.
