When our people and the communites in which we operate grow and prosper, so do we. Our Sustainable Development Policy recognises this and commits us to manage the environmental, health and safety, employment, supply chain and community issues that our operations affect.
The policy also commits us to work with others to promote sustainable development in the industries in which we operate, and aspire to have zero net adverse impact on the environment.
Climate changeWe see reducing greenhouse gas emissions as essential to mitigating adverse climate change. We report our own carbon emissions and have joined over 950 companies in signing the Copenhagen and Cancun Communiqués calling for an ambitious, robust and equitable global deal on climate change.
Environmental issuesOther environmental issues we are addressing include more sustainable use of water, improving our energy efficiency, lowering the impact of our material consumption and reducing local air pollution in Hong Kong.
Health & SafetyWe recognise safeguarding the health and safety of all stakeholders affected by our operations as being of critical importance. We are paying particular attention to vehicle safety in Mainland China, where considerable improvement is required.
CommunitiesWe are committed to enhancing the communities in which we operate and to respecting their culture and heritage. This is demonstrated by the way we conduct business, through financial and material contributions and through staff volunteering programmes.
Looking forwardIn 2010 we made significant progress in many of our impact areas, and aligned the sustainability policies of our operating companies. We recognise there is much still to do, and are committed to achieving fully sustainable businesses.
